The 7th Lunar Month is here. Also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival in Singapore, all Chinese spring to action to make offerings to the dead. It is as though the dead only walks among us in the 29 days of the Hungry Ghost Festival.

No.

In fact, they are so alive in Singapore, some parts of the city is known to be super haunted all year round!

Here are 5 spooky places in Singapore that gives you goosebumps even in bright daylight!

Gates of Hell

The first spooky place in Singapore are called Gates of Hell. There are numerous Gates of Hell in Singapore. Portals to the nether world right in the middle of the roads. In fact, according to Wikipedia, in 2018, there are 93 of them in Singapore!

These Gates of Hell, which cannot be named publicly, are so common that Singaporeans have a pet name for it:

ERP Gantry.

Almost every Singaporean reported feeling a shiver zapped down their spines whenever they passed by the ERP gantries. The power of the gantries are the strongest in the dreaded hours of 7.30am to 9.30am and 6pm – 8pm.

In addition to the chill down their spines, witnesses also reported hearing a sharp “Beep!” whenever they pass under the ERP gantries. If they don’t, they would receive a horrifying letter demanding for sacrifice within 7 days.

Very much like what would happen to you after you watch a Sadako video.

Places of Dread

Speaking of portals to hell, there are some places in Singapore where all Singaporeans agreed that they would not want to stay there.

The names of these places vary. However they generally have the word “Hospital” appended at the end of the buildings’ names. Therefore, whenever they were made to stay there, Singaporeans said they were being “hospitalised”.

Dark magic exist in that place, which sucks the manna – also known as Yusof Ishak face or SGD, of Singaporeans like a vacuum cleaner (not the Dyson ones). Almost every Singaporean who were hospitalised said that they would hear a voice in their mind to tell them to die instead of staying even one more night in the hospital.

The urge to die would be strongest whenever one receives the invoices demanding payment for the stay. So strong was the force, that even the occupant’s family members would also feel like jumping off the building after seeing the receipt!

Abyss of Yusof Ishak

And speaking of Yusof Ishak being sucked away, there’s this spooky place in Singapore which was said to be sucking all the manna of Singaporeans.

This black hole is a weird place that Singaporeans (and some Malaysians working in Singapore) are most unfamiliar and yet afraid of. Many of them claimed that whatever money they put in there, they would never see it until they are very old.

Some never even lived to see their life income.

This abyss is also known dearly as CPF.

The idea of seeing their money disappear after throwing them into CPF was so strong and negative that it drove some Singaporeans crazy. A certain Singaporean was so obsessed with trying to reclaim her money, that she even insisted CPF to return her money, while she was in labour.

Dead Children

Speaking of babies, Singapore have a lot of dead children running around in public places. Singaporeans call these kidly ghosts as Si Gi Na (死孩子), which literally translates to “Dead Children”.

These Si Gi Na are always blatantly appearing in public, but pop into any trains and you are most certainly be able to bump into one.

They are always running around, climbing onto the poles, kicking unsuspecting passengers and screaming at the top of their voices so that your goosebumps would start falling off.

Yet no one seemed to notice their presence. In fact, it seemed like these ghost children have no parents.

Because as far as we know, Singapore parents would not have allowed their children to misbehave in public.

So those must be dead children without good family upbringing. Singaporeans also have an affectionate name for it: Bo Ka Siao (没家教).

Train to SnorlaxLand

While we’re on the topic of trains, trains in Singapore are also one of the places that gives you goosebumps.

It was reported that whenever a white haired person, a pregnant woman or a man on crutches appear, the whole cabin of passengers would fall into coma for no apparent reason.

Even someone who was watching Korean drama on her phone would immediately concuss.

The train is also such an evil place that it made young men in military uniforms behave weirdly.

Many of those said men do not dare to sit down while taking a train. Not even if there were plenty of empty seats around.

It was said that if they did, unlucky things would happen to them. Like… Their faces would appear on social media, complaints would be made to their superiors… Before they knew it, they would be spending their next weekend in camp.

With such bad luck predicted to befall unto them, of course they would be unwilling to sit down!
